do you know if someone can repost an article from something like say 'The Washington Post' as long as they give FULL credit and or iframe the article page or link directly to it? i am building a news site and would love to get some feed back on this issue as i dont wish to cross ANY lines of ethics.

I only make minor edits when necessary. Edits are done to comply with the SEO software - too keyword dense or not enough keywords.

Edits are usually accomplished by adding a line or two before and after the post so the post itself is usually untouched.

Only once had to do major editing, I let the person know as a courtesy. The post should have been rejected, person who wrote it was not only unfamiliar with our site but the tone of the article minimized the need for our industry.

I submit a lot of articles as guest posts. Whomever takes it does have a right to edit. Many people use the guest post as a day off. It is understandable if it is edited later. Removing links is common. No Following a link is wrong. She did not have a problem with a link in the article, just does not want you to benefit from your work?

Everyone understands that guest posters are almost always in it for the link.

I only once had my guest post published without links. I sent an email and it was corrected. It was probably an oversight.

I actually have a post I have scheduled to publish tonight about Guest Post ethics.

Although there should be some type of standard agreement beforehand, the owner can choose to edit links out. For me, I prefer to talk to the writer before discussing things like that. I have built a sturdy reputation and one that is not lead for dive in and burn out quickly. I am an old school blogger too, meaning that while others have jumped in the past 2 years, I have been doing over 7 years now.

So... I do not want people putting in links to places that promote businesses in order to reap money. The real goal to guest posting is the honest desire to get recognized.

You can guest blog on the small sites and big sites, but it is important to be natural in writing and not sound like you are working to submit to ezine articles for money.

Guest Posting is just a further example of connecting with others... except outside your normal audience.

I like to think about guest posting as the tactic that targets multiple aims - the ones you mention is the most important, of course…

When you submit an article for a print publication, an editor has complete control over what is edited, how it can be used, etc. No editor in his right mind would accept or commission an article under any other condition.

Why is a blog different? It shouldn't be, but because most bloggers don't come from the journalism world, it comes as a shock when their words, title, etc are edited. It shouldn't.

Bottom line, if you don't want to be edited, publish on your own blog. Otherwise, you live with the house rules in someone else's domain.

When it comes to SEO coaching I usually first think of http://performancing.com/
http://marko.ca/blog/ deals with
Content sharing can be tricky
http://www.avivadirectory.com/blogger-law/
I think you would see some lack of common standards just from comments here. Despite that, there are advantages for collaborators establishing common ground rules : it's hard to run a nexus generating enough traffic for people to feel worth monitoring when running a solo act.
Hobby blogging ups the ante on that greatly because of limited resources of time, budgeting, etc.
Many websites encourage guest blogging to generate appeal. That has not generated a viable commercial model for paid writing that I am aware of. This is by Us was an attempt at that - and is folding.
Is there a generally accepted rule re: editing ? I don't know of anything that might be regarded as established practice - though copyrighting work under a Creative Commons license can affect how things work.

Excellent content - as you always provide and inspires me to come again and again. You are on my RSS reader now.

By the way, there is one more valuable resource I’d like to share with others readers. It’s about getting No #1 ranking for any Keyword on MSN search engine almost instantly.

I won't waste any of your time because this is absolutely mind-blowing:
