Find and market Domain Names: Tips by Ann Smarty
A couple decades ago choosing a domain name was pretty simple. There was more choice, fewer people vying for the same URL’s. While there were certainly domain parkers (people who would purchase domain space in the hopes of a big company coming forward to pay them for it for more than they bought it for), it wasn’t such a big issue for smaller fish just venturing into the pond.
That has definitely changed now. Everyone from the little mom and pop shop down the street to your eighty year old grandmother has a website, and competition for the right domain can be fierce. Many of the names you may have chosen for yourself may have already been snatched up, and there isn’t a lot of parking done anymore; domain fees are hefty enough that most will use them the second they secure them.
In addition to availability, there are many other things to consider. What other variations of a domain might you get to redirect to your website? When you are trying to brand yourself and your site or business, you have to keep an eye on the .net, .uk’s and others that people might mistake your website for.
Plus there are the more creative uses of domain names to spell out the brand itself. Startups in particular have begun using .io, ..be, or .ly for their domains. While this was a no-no in the past, and everyone wanted a top tier designation like .com, times are different. You have far more options than you once have at your disposal.

Focusing on your targeted keywords in the domain name is rather a disputable question. Yet domain name optimization has proved to be highly effective in terms of rankings. Suffice it to say that in some cases (especially when dealing with long tail and when combined with couple of other favorable factors) key-phrase-based domain name can […]
