Thanks for these great tips. I agree that function is more important than form, although form can’t be overlooked entirely. With contact details I find that a comprehensive contact page works well on every site I build.

Glad to hear other folks emphasizing function and usability over a “visually attractive” site. I believe that if your website is functional that the “visually attractive” part naturally follows.

On the contact information front, I agree to a point, however, as you mention here also, you want to lead them and I would say that you should lead them into contacting you in the way you want to be contacted. If you don’t want to be contacted by phone, then don’t include your phone number. (Consider first what impact this might have on a visitors decision to do business of course). I’ll add, that one more thing that is usually a good idea is to at least offer options for making contact, especially if you are trying to get people to complete a form. Some people will complete a form but others would prefer to just send an email. If you include a link to send an email directly, your conversions may improve.

The more informative the website, the better. I remember once I had to get dad’s car shipped for him and every I had to call so many places because of all the missing information on the website. Then I went on http://www.autoshippingnetwork.com and they’re website was so informative and easy to navigate. All of my questions were answered right there on the page.
